Modern Warfare 2

Today was the international release day for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. This is the sequel to the acclaimed Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare that was released back in November 2007. As it is the week of my birthday I decided to spoil myself and pick up this latest installment in the Call of Duty series.

I do enjoy a good FPS so while the wife and kids are asleep this evening I'll be firing up the Xbox 360, cracking open a cold beer (or three) and taking on those terrorists.

what do you think of the big controversial "No Russian" mission? I thought it was in pretty poor taste and not really needed for the story of the game.

I think Infinity Ward hurt themselves by leaving it in. The game is pretty fun though, despite the fact I may be the single worst FPS player in the world.

This mission is one of the major plot points of the game. It left me feeling a little squeamish watching the killing of innocent civilians, much more so as adult parent and knowing that things like this have happened in real life.

What annoyed me most is that it's a pretty unbelievable reason for triggering a Russian attack and invasion of the USA.

That said, the game is a lot of fun. I think I've been enjoying the Spec Ops missions more than the actual campaign.

I don't have Xbox Live so can't comment on multiplayer although I reckon it would be awesome.

I haven't read much fallout from the "No Russian" mission since the game has been released. All the potential negative media attention appeared the week before the game's release and then it died down fairly quickly when the 'leaked' scene was found to be taken out of context.

Still, the first half of that mission wasn't fun for me, just disturbing.

The other emotional scene for me was Ghost's fate...
