The Killer Rabbit

I have many miniatures projects 'on the workbench', so to speak. These are projects which I have started but have not yet completed. One of my many unfinished projects is a HOTT army based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

You may remember an earlier entry where I showed some pictures of The Black Beast of Aaaaarrrrrrggghhh which I had sculpted to serve as a Behemoth element in the army. Well, a couple of years ago I also sculpted another creature from that movie - the Rabbit of Caerbannog, AKA the Killer Rabbit.

If you haven't seen the movie, it is a spoof of King Arthur's quest to find the Holy Grail. In one scene, King Arthur and his knights have been led to the Cave of Caerbannog by the pyromaniacal Tim the Enchanter. It is at the entrance to the cave they meet the Killer Rabbit. The knights initially believe the creature to be an innocent little white rabbit - until it launches itself at the first knight to approach and decapitates him with a single bite to his throat.

On a trivial side-note, my gaming buddies and I used to refer to the Killer Rabbit as the 'Vorpal Bunny'. I don't know why we called it that, except perhaps as a reference to the Vorpal Sword (which is a magic sword that decapitates on a roll of a 20 on a 20-sided die) from our Dungeons & Dragons games. All images below can be clicked on for a larger image.

I sculpted the Killer Rabbit out of Milliput. It's only about 4mm in length. The dead knight is a 15mm miniature. I based it on a 40mm x 40mm base and will use it as a Beast element. Alternatively, I could have used it as a Lurker element and based it on a 30mm x 40mm base.

I had a bit of fun with this. It's almost a mini-diorama. In the background you can see the latest headless victim of the Killer Rabbit.

Beautiful little diorama! I'm just commenting to say that your stated aim of "finding time for my interests and hobbies" is doing exceedingly well if you were judging by this blog! You're doing better than me with only one child of 16 months (of which I am the primary carer however)!

Maybe you could cut down ever so slightly on one and come to critical mass once a month. That certainly helps me get my gaming fix. It is however not so good for 2 player games and longer games.

That said, we could quite easily organise an overlord scenario for memoir'44. I've got eastern front as well. Of course friendless would have to be involved.

Hey Mikey! I don't have as much time as my blog may indicate. The majority of photos are of miniatures that were completed years ago (pre-kids). My only miniatures project at the moment is my Dwarves and it's taken me six weeks just to get them prepared for painting!

Most of my blogging is done in the quiet hours pre-dawn when my family is still asleep. I will usually write several entries at a time and have them ready to just upload when I get home from work in the evening.

You're right, finding time to game with little kids can be difficult. The Critical Mass game nights were fun but I felt pretty exausted afterwards. I tend to prefer small game groups or one on one gaming now. But hey, a Memoir '44 overlord scenario is tempting though...

Sir Not Appearing in the Film

P.S. We also refered to that little bugger as a Vopal Bunny.

That is absolutely fantastic!

Does your opponent have a unit of Blades armed with a Holy Hand-grenade of Antioch?

If not send him over to my blog article here:
